《Today’s spiritual meditation》: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)
Meditation one: What is the “new command” given to Christians by Jesus the Lord? He asks us to love one another! Why is it a “new” command? Jesus does not ask us to love others with our own love, but to love them in accordance with the love He loves us with. His selflessness, His sacrifice, His forgiveness, and His magnanimity are the benchmark of that ‘Agape’ love. When Jesus called it “new”, it means that He wants us to love our enemies, and even to bless them, which goes beyond the Old Testaments’ teaching of loving your neighbors.
Meditation two: What is the purpose of the Lord Jesus commanding Christians to love one another? It not only helps us learn to obey the Lord, but it is also a testimony to the world that we are disciples of Christ. Is it easy to love one another in your marriage, family, fellowship, and Church? Keep this verse in mind: “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” (Phil 4:13).
Prayer: God our heavenly Father, thank You for your great love. Teach me how to grow up in Your love, and to fulfill our responsibilities of loving each other in the global church – beyond the boundaries of denominations, race, nationalities and language. I want to love, because You first loved us. I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!
